Glee: The Music, Vol. 3 - Showstoppers

Being a huge Gleek, and just a lover of good music (whether it be great songs from pop artists or Broadway masterpieces) I am greatly looking forward to the release of the fourth album from the hit television series, Glee.

This week's episode, Dream On, will have Niel Patrick Harris guest starring and singing Styx's 'Dream On' with Schuester (Matt Morrison).

Lea Michele's character, Rachel Berry will also being singing a duet of Les Misérables 'I Dreamed a Dream' with Idina Menzel's Shelby Corcan.

These two songs are worth the purchase of the album alone, but included on the soundtrack are:

-Olivia Newton-John's 'Physical'
-The Beatles' 'Hello Goodbye'
-All-American Rejects' 'Gives You Hell'
-Bonny Hunt's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'
-and many more!

I CANNOT wait for the release of this album, May 18.

Musical Soundtracks

Coraline: The Musical
- First thought, "What the heck?!"

It looks very interesting. Being both a fan of the movie and having read the book, Coraline could make a very interesting musical.

I would definitely give it a go.




Memphis
- This looks so good!

I know very little of this show, other than what I seen and heard of it, all point to AMAZING!




A Little Night Music
- Catherine Zeta-Jones AND Angela Lansbury AND Stephen Sondheim?!!!!

I could stop there, but I'm going to continue.

I have been a fan of Sondheim since the womb! And, to top that, A Little Night Music is one of my favorite Sondheim shows! And, to top that IT'S CATHERINE ZETA-FRIKKIN-JONES!!!!! ON BROADWAY!!!!

Oh, what I wouldn't give to see this show...

For children to be treated like regular human beings

Songs I want to sing but can't (either because they are out of my vocal range or written for a female)

Pity the Child from "Chess" (male)

- Such a powerful piece.

I feel I can relate to the story within this song. It is truly a song not to be missed.

A New Life from "Jekyll & Hyde" (female)

- Another ballad with high emotion.

This song is beautiful! Everyone can relate to it. I have considered singing it an octave lower than what it is written in to perform it.

The song has no specific gender giveaways. I could do it.

Someone Else's Story from "Chess" (female)

- I cannot perform this song due to it being specifically sung by a woman.

It is a flowing beauty. Filled with sincere emotion. Love it.

What theatrical roles do I want?

Luís Molina from Kiss of the Spider Woman

- I love this show and Molina is a deeply compassionate character. He fills my whole soul with gladness and it makes me all the more devastated when he [SPOILER!] dies.

This is by far my favorite musical and Molina is by far my most wanted role.







Sweeney Todd from Sweeney Todd (imagine that...)

- Stephen Sondheim's opus, Sweeney Todd, is a marvelous show with grand emotion and a beautiful score.

George Hearn performed the eponymous character best, however, I would love to tread in his talented footsteps and be the next Sweeney.






The Emcee from Cabaret

- Fred Ebb and John Kander's most widely known show (however, not their best. That honor must go to Kiss of the Spider Woman) Cabaret, is filled with enjoyable numbers. Many of these numbers are given to the marvelousy funny Emcee.

I would have a blast playing this over-the-top, comic role.






Mr. MacAfee from Bye Bye Birdie

- I have actually played this role before.

While I dislike this show greatly (weak plot, lame songs, etc.) Mr. MacAfee was possibly one of the most fun roles I have had. His songs are ridiculous, his lines are outrageous and he is a total spaz. So much fun.
